Financial Requirements: 2026 Income and Savings Criteria

The monthly income required for the D7 Visa, extra amounts for a spouse and children, and the savings requirement — with current figures.

Minimum Monthly Income

The D7 Visa income threshold is pegged to the Portuguese minimum wage and is updated annually — always confirm the exact current figure with us before relying on it.

As of 2026, a single applicant needs a regular passive income of €920 per month. Consulates typically request the last 3 months of bank statements plus documents proving the source of that income — but as a safety margin, we recommend preparing and presenting at least 12 months of income history.

Additional Income for a Spouse and Children

For a family application, the income threshold rises with the number of applicants: roughly an extra 50% of the base amount for a spouse or dependent parent, and roughly an extra 30% per dependent child.

For example, if the amount required for a single applicant is X, the main applicant's own income needs to reach roughly 1.5X for a joint application with a spouse, and roughly 1.8X with one child. What matters here is the main applicant's income — this isn't a matter of adding the spouse's or child's separate income on top to reach the figure.

Savings Requirement

On top of monthly income, consulates generally also want to see a lump sum in savings — a common reference is roughly 12 months' worth of the required income. This both strengthens your application and acts as a buffer against income fluctuations.

Why Professional Guidance Matters

Consulates don't just check the numbers — they assess whether your income is sustainable and credible. Weak or incomplete financial documentation is one of the leading causes of rejection. We work with you to confirm the current thresholds, the accepted document formats, and consulate-specific expectations before you submit.
