Required Documents for Your Consulate Appointment
The complete document checklist to bring to your D7 Visa consulate appointment.
Core Documents
A valid passport (at least 6 months of validity remaining), a completed visa application form, a biometric photo, travel health insurance, and a criminal record certificate (apostilled and sworn-translated where required) are the basic paperwork.
Financial Documents
You'll need 12 months of bank statements, documents proving your income source (pension statement, lease agreement, dividend/interest certificates, etc.), and proof of your Portuguese bank account.
Accommodation and Health
A lease agreement or property deed showing where you'll stay in Portugal, plus a valid health insurance policy, should also be included in your file.
An Extra Document: The Motivation Letter
Some consulates also request a motivation letter explaining why and how you plan to settle in Portugal. This letter matters because it helps show your application is a genuine relocation plan, not a short-term stay.
Most documents need to be apostilled and sworn-translated into Portuguese — the exact list can vary by consulate, so we confirm the current checklist with you before you apply.
